5 'Tahrir' men held in city |

Police arrested five alleged members of banned Hizb ut-Tahrir at the city's Nilkhet on Saturday while trying to bring out a procession protesting the visit of US Secretary of States Hillary Clinton.
The arrestees are: Mainuddin, Faysal Khan, Shafiur Rahman, Imran Ali, Mamunur Rashid.
Police said Mainuddin studies finance at Dhaka University, Faysal studies finance at Jagannath University while Shafiur, Imran and Mamunur Rashid are students of Eastern University, BIMS and ICMAB respectively.
Sub-Inspector Shafiqur Rahman of New Market Police Station said a group of 25-30 youths gathered at Nilkhet intersection with banners and leaflets and were preparing to bring out the procession around 5:30pm.
They were also distributing leaflets among the traders and pedestrians in the area.
The leaflets and banners were containing anti-state statements and provoking speeches against the ongoing visit of Hillary and imminent visit of Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Dhaka, he said.
Later traders informed police about their presence and chased the youths. All of the youths except the five were caught by the traders. They gave them a good beating, he said, adding police rescued them and sent Faysal and Mainuddin to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police will file case against them under anti-terrorism act.
