VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Demonstration against US War in Waziristan
Saturday, 24 October 2009
London 24th October 2009 – Hundreds of Muslim men, women and children gathered outside the Pakistan High Commission in London calling for the Zardari government to be removed in order to save Pakistan from America’s plan which has caused Pakistan to descend into greater terror and chaos. The demonstration was organised by the local branch of the global Islamic political party, Hizb ut-Tahrir.
After tilawat of Quran, Dr Abdul Wahid, chair of Hizb ut-Tahrir’s local executive committee, explained that Hizb ut-Tahrir Wilayat Pakistan had been leading the opposition to the launch of the second war in South Waziristan by the Zardari regime, and have severely accounted the Zardari’s government for allowing US military – and paramilitary organisations like Dyncorp and Blackwater – from creating terror in cities in Pakistan.
He said that although the regime justified the South Waziristan operation saying it was for Pakistan’s security this was a lie and said the government was simply following American instructions as General Musharraf had done before in 2003/4 – when there had been no threat of ‘terrorism’ and ‘militancy’. However, that had proved costly and unpopular, hence the current propaganda against Islam and militancy that had been engineered to justify the operation.
He reminded those gathered that the recent attacks on the Islamic University in Islamabad, in conjunction with the evidence of US military depot (containing explosive material) in Sehala and the sinister actions of these private US security firms was proof of a foreign hand in these operations, and reminded people of similar American actions in Iraq and even in Central America in the past.
Following this, the demonstration was addressed by a Pakistani Community leader in London, Mr Mushtaq Raja. He said that since the beginning of time Allah Ta’ala had sent His Messengers with guidance for humanity to live and to solve problems by. Our Holy Prophet (saw) had sacrificed and struggled for this noble aim. Now, Pakistan was in crisis and Hizb ut-Tahrir was calling for this same guidance to solves these many problems according to Quran and Sunnah, in the form of the Islamic Khilafat – yet the regime was chasing and arresting these peaceful political activists. He called for all Muslims to support the work of Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Tauseef Zahid and Atif Salahuddin from Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain’s Pakistan Committee then addressed the demosntrators in urdu. Tauseef went through the American plan for the region – explaining their aims were to consolidate their foothold in Afghanistan, where they were currently failing, and to weaken Pakistan as they had weakened Iraq. He said America had sowed the seeds of sectarianism and civil war in Pakistan, and the criminal rulers of Pakistan had facilitated this. He cited the Kerry-Lugar Bill as the latest example of how the Zardari government had surrendered itself and the country yet further to America. Atif reminded people that America was no friend to Pakistan, Islam and Muslims, and the complicity of the regime was treachery. He also reminded people that Nawaz Sharif supported the operation in South Waziristan and was considered and an ally by the Americans. He said that unless Pakistan had a new system and new leadership different to the betrayal seen under democracy and dictatorship alike, we would see yet more treachery in the future. He said Pakistan could never be saved by Zardari, Nawaz Sharif or Musharraf and he called for all those of power and influence to support Hizb ut-Tahrir to establish the Khilafah, so that Pakistan can be rid from America and the terror it has brought since 2001.
Taji Mustafa said that Hizb ut-Tahrir had held many activities for this campaign in local communities, and would be organising more. He called upon the Muslims present to exhaust their efforts to carry this message: to “Save Pakistan – Zardari has to go!” and that Khilafah was the only means to do this and to raise the flag of La illaha illa Allah high.
The peaceful demonstration ended with dua for the people of Pakistan and the Muslim ummah.
