12 Tahrir men held

Police in separate drives yesterday arrested 12 operatives of banned Hizb-ut Tahrir from the city’s Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Tejgaon, Paltan and Sutrapur areas and seized around 600 leaflets from their possession.

The arrestees were distributing leaflets containing provocative statement against the government and the prime minister among the Muslim devotees after the Jumma prayers.

Mohammadpur police arrested four Hizb-ut Tahrir men from Lalmatia area, Dhanmondi police arrested five while Tejgaon, Paltan and Sutrapur police arrested one each from their areas.

Meanwhile, Chittagong Metropolitan Police arrested three activists of the banned organisation on similar charges in different places of the port city yesterday, reports BSS.

Police arrested Rashed from Baitul Kader Jame Mosque at Baluchara, Minhaj from Ferojshah Jame Mosque premises and Manik from Golamrasul market of Reazuddinbazar area.

Sources said most of the arrestees are students of private universities.
