Hizb al-Tahrir holds West Bank festival

HEBRON (Ma’an) — Thousands gathered for the annual festival of Hizb al-Tahrir in the southern West Bank on Sunday, a press statement said.

The festival commemorates the 91st anniversary of the fall of the Islamic Caliphate.

The media office of the pacifist Islamist group said the event was held under the slogan “Muslim revolutionaries, the caliphates are a deputy from God, the name of your unity, liberator of your land and the civil state is your enemy and blocks God’s law.”

The conference called for support to the Syrian revolution and urged revolutionaries to continue the effort to establish an Islamic Caliphate.

In 2011, Palestinian Authority forces shut down the anniversary events in the West Bank and launched a campaign to detain supporters.
