Statement to the Public in Tunisia: Continuation of Police Attacks against Hizb ut Tahrir Members even on the Outbreak of the Revolution Anniversary
Continuation of Police Attacks against Hizb ut Tahrir Members even on the Outbreak of the Revolution Anniversary
(Translated)
At the time when the people of Tunisia were celebrating the anniversary of the 17th of December 2010, the security in Sidi Bouzid detained five members of Hizb ut Tahrir who had gone out to attend the activities of the anniversary of the outbreak of the revolution, and they were:
- Member of the Administrative Committee of Hizb ut Tahrir in Gabès Ustadh Taariq Raafi’
- Muhammad Ameen Biyounus
- ‘Ali Mustafaa
- Hassaan Al-‘Aisaawi
- Ghassan Haddad
And if we, Hizb ut Tahrir in Wilayah Tunisia, were expressing our dismay towards the manner of organising the celebration activities of the day that the revolution was launched in Sidi Bouzid and which reminded us of the celebrations of the 7th of November,
And if we were registering the engagement of most of the media outlets, political parties, rights organisations and bodies in a conspiracy of silence and arbitrariness in the utilisation of the authority which the authority practises against Hizb ut Tahrir, we bring to attention to the seriousness of the rights and legal situation that the country is experiencing which is implemented under the excuse of confronting terrorism and which will lead, if it continues upon its current state and pattern, to the return of despotism from its main gateway.
And finally, we in Hizb ut Tahrir in Wilayah Tunisia consider what the interior ministry has done in respect to arbitrary and periodic detentions of members of Hizb ut Tahrir in all of the popular Hizbi actions that they implement, that it counts as a clear breach of the fifth chapter from the ordinance number 87 of the year 2011 which: “Forbids the general authorities from hindering the activity of political groups or interrupt them directly or indirectly”. This is just as we consider it to represent a direct targeting or the activity of the Hizb and we reserve our right to respond to these practises through all legitimate political avenues.
