Five HT activists remanded in police custody

altPESHAWAR: An Anti-Terrorism Court here Wednesday handed over five Hizbut Tahrir activists to the Faqirabad Police Station on two-day physical remand.

The Faqirabad police on Wednesday arrested the five activists including Rizwan Ahmed of Abbottabad, Zahir Khan of Swat and Mohammad Nazar, Hasan and Junaid of Peshawar. They were accused of planting a remote-controlled bomb outside the residence of former MNA and Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Shabbir Ahmed Khan and were charged under section 3 and 4 Explosives Substance Act and section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The police produced the Hizbut Tahrir activists in the Anti-Terrorism Court, which on the request of Faqirabad Police Station investigation officer gave their two-day physical remand. A week ago, some unknown militants had fixed the remote-controlled bomb outside the house of Shabbir Ahmed Khan.

According to the police, people informed the former MNA about the device, and later the bomb disposal unit rushed to the spot and defused the bomb. Deputy spokesman for Hizbut Tahrir, Imran Yusufzai told The News that their group was not involved in the case. He said the police was intentionally implicating it in the case to create a wedge between Jamaat-e-Islami and Hizbut Tahrir.

He claimed that the police had arrested the activists on April 17 during the Hizbut Tahrir rally in the city and had charged them in the terrorism case, which was highly condemnable
