End Democracy Establish Khilafah
Democracy is the Slave of the Powerful and the Capitalists
Today’s Senate elections have once again exposed the fact that democracy is the slave of the powerful and the capitalists. Every participating party in this system has confirmed that candidates are spending hundreds of millions of rupees to secure a single seat in the Senate. So much so that the leader of the political party who is riding on the horse of change has said that “A good man offered me 150 million Rupees”. These Senate elections have exposed the filth of democracy to the extent that even the supporters of this system are compelled to say that even after fifty elections under this system no change will ever come to Pakistan.
Not only the people of Pakistan rather even the common people in the West now know that the democratic system only uses the name of the people but always pursues and secures the interests of the elite. Therefore in recent times we saw movements like “We are the 99%” and “Occupy Wall Street” in the West. Spending hundreds of millions of rupees for one seat in the Senate exposes the fact that those who spend such huge amounts of money are assured of their victory and increase in their fortune many folds once they make it to the Senate. The power of money in democracy was also visible in America where we saw that candidates running for the US Congress and Senate in 2014 spent 5 billion dollars on their election campaigns. The same phenomenon was recently witnessed in Britain with the emergence of “Cash for Access” scandal. Labour politician and former foreign and interior minister Jack Straw told under cover journalists that he used his influence to change European Union rules on behalf of a commodity firm which paid him sixty thousand pounds. In the same scandal Conservative party leader and Member of Parliament Sir Melcom Rifkind told the same under cover reporters that “I am self employed so nobody pays me a salary”.
Democracy is a rotten system and no matter how much fragrance is poured over it, its stink won’t go away. Therefore whether the 22nd Amendment is introduced in the constitution or hundreds of similar amendments are brought, this system will always safeguard the interests of the elite. If almost after two hundred years of so called people’s democracy in the West, the powerful elite are still the actual rulers and democracy provides them the opportunity to further increase their power then how can democracy bring any real change in Pakistan or the Muslim world? Muslims of Pakistan must abandon democracy and work for the establishment of the Khilafah. Khilafah is a system revealed by Allah (swt) and it eliminates the right of man to legislate which is used by the elite to make laws which only secure their interests.
